Freeing Your Child from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder by Tamar Chansky This wonderful book is for the parent(s) of a child with OCD. It is both incredibly easy to read and extremely practical and useful. Chansky does a great job explaining OCD in laymen's terms and also providing illustrations that capture the essence of OCD. Parents will see their child in a whole new light after reading this book and they will feel empowered to help their child fight back against OCD. There are sections of this book that are also appropriate to share with a child, because they help the child verbalize what it is like to have OCD, which is very difficult for some children. This is a book to order in bulk and pass out to grandparents, uncles, aunts, a child's teacher, etc. Price: $14.95 Length: 368 pages Publication Date: 2001 Pros: Very readable and practical. Accomplishes what it sets out to do. Cons: Not very technical or geared to the research-oriented. About the author: Tamar Chansky is based in Philadelphia, PA. In addition to writing about anxiety disorders in children, she maintains a private therapy practice and heads the Anxiety Clinic for children. She also serves as an advisory board member to the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation. Available from: Amazon |
