JJ's Place is the first website of its kind. It is designed as a safe and useful online space for kids with OCD, their family and friends, their teachers, therapists, and physicians.

JJ is the host of the website. With her dog Molly (who knows everything about OCD) she welcomes visitors and members and guides them into the various activities, games, and lessons.

Six characters live at JJ's Place, each with a specific type of OCD. These were carefully developed by experts. Members can learn from and with them. (Shown above is Kyle, who is the "hand-washer.")

Therapists often have kids with OCD create and name their "OCD Monster" and differentiate themselves from their OCD thoughts. This helps kids confront their OCD. Using advanced digital technology, this interactive game takes this therapeutic concept even further, allowing for personalization and customization of a digital experience with your very own "OCD Monster". This is an exploration of a new approach to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

The Childhood OCD Project is a non-profit entity based in Boulder, Colorado. Our mission is:
To help to mitigate the impact of childhood OCD by building community and providing information to affected children and their families, friends, teachers, and therapists.

OCD can be a terrible and terrifying disease. Happy kids can suddenly become obsessed about things that seem trivial and silly -- like washing, or going outside, or doing homework. Parents can easily misunderstand what's happening to their child. It can be hard to figure out what to do, and harder still to find the help you need to do it. The family doctor may not know how to spot OCD, or might refer you to a mental health professional who is unfamiliar with treating OCD. Many families report spending months or years (and many dollars) getting their child unhelpful therapy before discovering a therapist who really understood OCD and could make a difference. Meanwhile, OCD kids may struggle in school, with friends, with grandparents and family -- all while trying to also combat their obsessions and compulsions.

We want to change that.

We have three goals:
  • To provide information, activities, and community for kids with OCD that they can understand and relate to;
  • To provide information and community for the parents and family of a child with OCD;
  • To provide information and community for teachers, therapists, physicians, and other professionals to increase the quality of care for these kids and decrease confusion, delay, and misdiagnosis.
JJ's Place is the Project's first attempt to improve the lives of kids with OCD; however, it will not be the last. Our goal is to produce books, videos, and other materials for parents and grandparents, teachers, therapists, physicians, and others. In addition, our goal is to raise funds to translate JJ's Place and other materials into other languages for distribution to kids around the world.

We urge you to become a member. Your support will ensure our continued ability to maintain this site, and you will gain many benefits, such as learning and participating in our online communities, receiving our newsletter, the ability to read and submit book reviews, and the ability to e-mail helpful articles to grandparents, family, teachers, and friends. You'll be able to invite guests to browse through JJ's Place. And, most importantly, you'll be helping to support other kids and families dealing with OCD.
